Champions Gate wins Hollywood Park feature
December 9, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Champions Gate defeated Baby Blake by a half-length to win the $59,006 feature on Friday at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, Champions Gate ran six furlongs in 1:09.94 to win his debut on the turf. Sent off as the 7-10 favorite, Champions Gate paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10.
Baby Blake returned $5.40 and $3.40 in his first start since June 11. Heart Fever was another 3 3-4 lengths back in third and paid $2.60 to show. The field was reduced to six starters after 2-1 morning line favorite Sweet Swap and Got Even were scratched because of illness.
Champions Gate has two wins in four starts and career earnings of $97,240.
Rosario, Joe Talamo and Martin Garcia each rode two winners on the card.
