Kettle Corn takes Native Diver at Hollywood Park
December 3, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Kettle Corn and jockey Garret Gomez rallied to beat favorite Tres Borrachos in the $100,000 Native Diver Handicap on Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Tres Borrachos and jockey Joel Rosario led from the gate with second-choice Tweebster and rider Rafael Bejarano on his tail in the Grade 3 stakes for older horses, but Kettle Corn came from fourth along the rail to catch the favorite in the stretch and win by a half-length in his first stakes start.
Kettle Corn covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.03 and paid $19, $7.40 and $3.40. Tres Borrachos returned $3.60 and $2.40. Tweebster paid $2.40 to show.
Kettle Corn earned $60,000 for the win, his third in his last five starts and his sixth of 12 overall, for a career total of $171,891.
