A Diehl wins closing-day feature at Churchill
November 27, 2011LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Diehl splashed home under jockey Freddie Lenclud to the $51,470 closing-day feature at Churchill Downs on Sunday, holding off Color Me Blue by 1 1/4 lengths.
The 6-year-old gelding ran a mile on the sloppy main track in 1:36.72 and paid $13, $5.80 and $2.80. Color Me Blue returned $4.80 and $2.40, and Modern Cowboy paid $2.60 to show.
Trained by Rusty Arnold and owned by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., A Diehl earned $32,400 to boost his career earnings to $288,206.
The close of the 21-day Fall Meet at the historic track saw jockey Julien Leparoux win his ninth overall riding title with 34 wins overall under the Twin Spires. Steve Asmussen and Mike Maker shared the training title with 15 wins each. Ken and Sarah Ramsey were the leading owners with 12 winners.
