ETOBICOKE, Ontario Tu Endie Wei staked her claim for the Sovereign Award as Canadian champion 2-year-old filly with a convincing win over a quality field in the $152,100 Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.

With Jim McAleney aboard, Tu Endie Wei was pressed through fractions of 22.61 seconds and 45.41 in the seven-furlong sprint. Miss Scarlet Road made a four-wide bid for the lead exiting the turn, before Tu Endie Wei drew away to score by 4 3/4 lengths, in 1:21.97.

I played it by ear, said McAleney. I was hoping someone would go [for the lead], because I can get her to settle once we get in behind a horse. But once we got to the five-eighths, we had the position that we had, and I had so much horse, it was just a matter of nursing her along.

Tu Endie Wei ($3.90) collected $90,000 for owner Brereton Jones and trainer Reade Baker. She has won three stakes in four starts, to go along with a seventh-place finish as the favorite in the Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland.

Maryland-based Sweet Seventeen rallied wide to finish second by a half-length over Runfor Ro. Painted Woman finished fourth in the 12-horse field.
