Hit It Rich wins Big A's Long Island Handicap
November 12, 2011NEW YORK (AP) - Hit It Rich beat Mekong Melody by 11/2 lengths on Saturday in the $150,000 Long Island Handicap for fillies and mares at Aqueduct.
A gray 4-year-old trained by Shug McGaughey, Hit It Rich sat second behind Unbridled Essence for the most of the 11/2 miles of the last major turf race in New York this season. Javier Castellano sent her to the front turning for home and Hit It Rich went on to her fifth win in 11 starts, and first stakes victory. The time was 2:30.39 over the firm course.
Hit It Rich paid $10.80, $5.50 and $3.90. Mekong Melody, winner of this race last year, came on to get second and returned $3.90 and $3. Musical Rain paid $4.10 to show.
