All Star Heart takes Las Palmas at Santa Anita
November 6, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - All Star Heart went from third at the top of the stretch to a comfortable two-length victory over City to City on Sunday in the $150,000 Las Palmas Stakes, a turf mile for fillies and mares on the closing day of Santa Anita's Oak Tree meeting.
Ridden by Brice Blanc, All Star Heart was last in the field of five at the top of the stretch but moved up to third on the turn, took the lead with a big kick going four wide into the stretch and beat back a rally from City to City to win in 1:35.74.
The clear favorite, Malibu Pier, was third for most of the race then weakened to fourth in the latter stages.
A 4-year-old filly bred in Canada, All Star Heart paid $7.20, $3.60 and $2.80. City to City paid $4.20 and $2.80. Sarah's Secret paid $3 to show.
