Breeders' Cup: Classic the choice for Havre de Grace
October 29, 2011LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Havre de Grace will only enter the Breeders' Cup Classic on Monday, and will not also be entered in the Ladies' Classic, trainer Larry Jones said Saturday afternoon at Keeneland.Havre de Grace was pre-entered in both races this past Wednesday. Since those races are run on different days, she conceivably could have been entered in both on Monday at Churchill Downs. But Jones said that after speaking to owner Rick Porter, they decided to only enter the Classic, against males next Saturday. The Ladies' Classic is Friday."Mr. Porter was worried about drawing the one hole in the Classic, but I told him that with no more than 14 horses, it's not like the Derby where they need room for an auxiliary gate. The one hole won't be right up against the rail," Jones said."It doesn't look like the weather will be a factor. It's not like it's going to be like it was today at Belmont on Friday, and like it is today at Keeneland on Saturday."Belmont Park on Saturday had to cancel after three races because of snow. It was a delightful fall day at Keeneland.Havre de Grace was sent by van from Keeneland to Churchill Downs on Saturday afternoon. She is scheduled to gallop on Sunday at Churchill, and have her final workout there on Monday.
