Long shot Abuela wins Keeneland feature
October 26, 2011LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Long shot Abuela raced to a head win Wednesday over graded stakes winner Hooh Why in the $58,000 Lakland Farm Purse at Keeneland.
The winner, ridden by Jon Court, covered 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack in 1:43.82 after the scheduled turf contest was moved to the main track because of heavy rain.
Abuela paid $45.60, $18.60 and $6.40, while Hooh Why returned $10.20 and $4.40. Stakes winner Snow Top Mountain was a nose back in third and paid $2.20.
The 5-year-old daughter of Giant's Causeway races for G. Watts Humphrey Jr. and Ian Banwell's St. George Farm Racing. She earned $34,800 as she improved her record to five wins in 20 starts with earnings of $175,589.
