Headache wins Hawthorne Gold Cup
October 8, 2011STICKNEY, Ill. (AP) - Headache won the 75th running of the Grade 2 $500,000 Hawthorne Gold Cup, beating Where's Sterling by a half-length Saturday.
Headache, ridden by Paco Lopez, ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:04 3-5 and $12.60, $6.00 and $4.40. Headache also won the Grade 3 Cornhusker in June at Prairie Meadows.
Where's Sterling returned $7.40 and $5.80, and Cease paid $4.40 to show.
Favorite Giant Oak was fifth.
