Hello Prince breezes to victory at Calder
October 1, 2011MIAMI (AP) - Heavily favored Hello Prince breezed to a six-length victory Saturday in the Birdonthewire Stakes, the first of two $100,000 features for 2-year-olds on the first day of Calder Race Course's 45-day meeting.
Exclusively Maria survived a tight finish and a steward's inquiry to win the Cassidy Stakes, the co-feature for fillies.
Hello Prince, ridden by Jose Angel Garcia, ran six furlongs in 1:11 3/5 and paid $3.60 and $2.60. Seattle Ex earned $3.00 to place. There was no show betting with the short field.
Exclusively Maria, with Jose Alvarez up, went the six furlongs in 1:12 4/5 and paid $14.40, $7.20 and $4.40. Another Romance was a neck back and returned $5.80 and $4.60. Live Every Day earned 3.00 to show.
