Broken Dreams wins Maddy Stakes at Santa Anita
September 30, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Broken Dreams rallied from fifth at the sixteenth pole to beat Givine by a half-length and win the $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes on Friday, the opening day of Santa Anita's autumn meeting.
Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Broken Dreams ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf in 1:12.23 and paid $13.40, $5.40 and $6.80.
Givine returned $7.20 and $7.60, while Tanda was another nose back in third and earned $5.60 to show. Defending champion Unzip Me, the 4-5 favorite who had won five of her seven previous races on the turf course, was fourth. The large show payoffs were the result of Unzip Me finishing out of the money in the field of six.
The victory, worth $60,000, increased Broken Dreams' career earnings to $256,433, with five wins in 15 starts.
