Pomeroys Pistol wins Belmont's Gallant Bloom
September 24, 2011NEW YORK (AP) - Pomeroys Pistol drew off to a four-length victory in the $150,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap on Saturday, one of five wins on the Belmont Park card for jockey Javier Castellano.
Facing older rivals for the first time, the 3-year-old Pomeroys Pistol was never far off the pace set by Moontune Missy in the stakes for fillies and mares. Pomeroys Pistol took the lead turning for home and confidently pulled away to her fourth win in 11 starts.
Bred, owned and trained by Amy Tarrant, Pomeroys Pistol ran the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.60, paying $6.10, $3.40 and $3.10. Tamarind Hall got second, returning $4.50 and $3.90. Lovely Lil paid $6.20 to show.
