Stormy Dixie wins Monmouth Park feature
September 18, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Stormy Dixie set a course record in beating Nefertiti by a neck to win the $60,000 Politely Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
The 5-year-old mare trained by Alan Goldberg and ridden by Chuck C. Lopez ran the 1 1/16 miles over a firm turf course in 1:39.74. That bested the 1:39.81 mark set by My Princess Jess on June 28, 2008.
Stormy Dixie returned $12, $6.80 and 4.60, while Nefertiti paid $19.40 and $12.40. Marquet Madness was another length back in third and earn $11.60.
It was the fourth career win for Stormy Dixie, who has now earned $197,540.
