Trainer Takter elected to harness Hall of Fame
September 5, 2011TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Three-time trainer of the year Jimmy Takter has been elected to harness racing's Hall of Fame.
The U.S. Harness Writers Association announced Monday that the 50-year-old Swede was voted into the Hall along with writers Jean Emerson and Moira Fanning, who were voted to the Communicators' Corner.
Takter has trained two Hambletonian winners, Muscle Massive and Malabar Man. He also trained two horses of the year - Moni Maker in 1998 and Malabar Man in 1999. His horses have been voted divisional honors 27 times.
This year, he trains harness racing's No. 1-ranked horse, See You At Peelers, a 3-year-old filly pacer.
Takter has won 11 Breeders Crown races and is the series' leading money-winning stable with $5.8 million.
