Grace Hall wins Spinaway Stakes
September 4, 2011SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Grace Hall edged favored Judy the Beauty by 13/4 lengths Sunday in the 120th running of the $250,000 Spinaway Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Saratoga Race Course.
Ramon Dominguez rode the Anthony Dutrow-trained Grace Hall, undefeated in two starts after running 7 furlongs in 1:23.74. She earned $150,000 for her owners, Michael Dubb and the Bethlehem Stables.
Grace Hall paid $8.80, $3.90 and $2.50. Judy the Beauty, who saw her career winning streak snapped at three, returned $3.80 and $3. And Why Not paid $4 to show.
Earlier, Favored Brilliant Speed, ridden by John Velazquez, won the $100,000 Saranac Stakes for 3-year-olds by 21/2 lengths over Queen'splatekitten. The Tom Albertrani-trained colt ran 1 1-8 miles over the inner turf course in 1:48.73, earned $60,000 for his owner, Live Oak Plantation. He paid $6.50, $4.20 and $3.10. Queens'platekitten returned $6.50 and $4.50 and King Congie paid $4.50 to show.
