Quiet Giants wins $250,000 Molly Pitcher Stakes
September 3, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Quiet Giant drew off in the stretch to win the $250,000 Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, beating Payton d'Oro by five lengths.
Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Julien Leparoux, the 4-year-old horse ran 1 1/16 miles over a fast track in 1:43 1-5 and returned $3.80, $2.40 and $2.20. The victory in the Grade II race was the seventh in 12 career starts for Quiet Giant, who has now earned $405,389.
Earlier on the card, She Digs Me scored a 6 1/4-length win in the $100,000 Sapling Stakes.
Ridden by Elvis Trujillo and trained by Syeve Asmussen, the 2-year-old colt ran the 6 furlongs over a fast track in 1:10 1-5 and returned $10.60, $5.20 and $4.20 in winning the Grade III race.
