Uncle Mo nosed out in return to races
August 27, 2011SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Uncle Mo has been beaten by a nose in his thrilling return to the races, losing out to Caleb's Posse on Saturday by the shortest of margins in the $250,000 King's Bishop at Saratoga Race Course.
Uncle Mo was the early Kentucky Derby favorite before being sidelined for more than four months with a life-threatening liver disease. In his first start since April, Uncle Mo stormed into the lead in the stretch and the crowd began cheering him home, only to watch as Caleb's Posse catch him in the final surge to the finish line.
Uncle Mo, the 2-year-old champion who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, was sent off as the even-money favorite for his first start since finishing third in the Wood Memorial.
The seven-furlong King's Bishop was the race before the Travers.
