Union Rags wins $150K Saratoga Special
August 15, 2011SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Union Rags emerged from a four-horse grouping with the lead and drew away in the stretch to win the 106th running of the $150,000 Saratoga Special for 2-year-olds by 7 1-4 lengths Monday at Saratoga Race Course.
Javier Castellano rode the Michael Matz-trained Union Rags, who ran 6 1/2 furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:18.33, his second win in as many starts. The victory was worth $90,000 to the Chadds Ford Stable. He paid $8.50, $4 and $2.90.
Runner-up Stat paid $3.30 and $2.90. Indian Evening, third of six, returned $2.70 to show.
