Savvy Supreme wins Monmouth Oaks
August 13, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Savvy Supreme drew off in the stretch to win the $150,000 Monmouth Oaks on Saturday, beating Miss Valentine by 13/4 lengths at Monmouth Park.
Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Elvis Trujillo, the 3-year-old filly ran 1 1-16 miles over a fast track in 1:43 1-5 and returned $17, $7.60 and $5.20. The win in the Grade III stakes was third in six career starts for Savvy Supreme, who has now earned $177,525.
Earlier on the card, Suzzona overtook Out Post in the stretch and drew off to win the $65,000 Candy Eclair Stakes by 13/4 lengths. Ridden by Julian Pimentel and trained by Benjamin Feliciano Jr., the 7-year-old mare covered the 51/2 furlongs over a firm turf course in 1:02 and returned $4.20, $3 and $2.60.
