California Nectar wins at Del Mar
August 11, 2011DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - California Nectar held off 17-1 long-shot Sleep Tight by a half-length Thursday in the $70,000 feature for older fillies and mares at Del Mar.
Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, California Nectar ran five furlongs on the turf in 56.07 seconds and paid $17, $9.20 and $5.40.
Sleep Tight returned $3.40 and $3.60, while West Ruler was another half-length back in third and paid $3.40 to show.
Mike Mitchell saddled two winners to tie Hall of Famer Ron McAnally as the winningest trainer in Del Mar history at 436.
