SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Despite global economic uncertainty, the Fasig-Tipton select yearling thoroughbred sales remained strong.

The average price of a yearling sold during the two-session auction that closed Tuesday was $319,340, up by 15.9 percent from last year. Gross revenue rose to $32.89 million, up by 1.2 percent from 2010.

The number of horses sold dropped by 15, to 104.

A colt by Medaglia d'Oro from Supercharger, dam of Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, fetched $1.2 million Monday from John Ferguson. He represents Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. He bought six yearlings for $4.125 million.

Ferguson signed for seven more horses on Tuesday, including another $1.2-million colt, an offspring of Bernardini from the dam of Havre de Grace, currently among the top-rated American fillies in training.
