Chipshot wins Monmouth Park feature
August 6, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Chipshot drew off in the stretch to beat Cal Nation by 23/4 lengths in the $75,000 Select Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Corey Nakatani, the 3-year-old colt ran six furlongs over a fast track in 1:08 3/5 and paid $8.40, $3.60 and $2.60. It was the first stakes victory for Chipshot, who has now won three of his 13 career starts and earned $209,480.
In the co-feature, Ju Jitsu Jax emerged from a five-horse pack in the deep stretch to win by a neck in the $65,000 My Frenchman Stakes.
The 5-year-old horse covered the 51/2 furlongs on a firm turf course in 1:02. Trained by Howard Wolfendale and ridden by Forest Boyce, Ju Jitsu Jax paid $46.80, $18.40 and $5.20.
