Arena Elvira, Sanagas stakes winners at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Arena Elvira has taken the $75,000 Madam Jumel Stakes for fillies and mares, and Sanagas rallies to win the co-featured $75,000 John's Call Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.

Arena Elvira, 4-year-old ridden by Jose Lezcano, wore down Acronym and opened a 1 1/4-length advantage at the wire Friday after running 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.42. Arena Elvira earned $45,000 for her owner, Carolyn Wilson, and paid $5.70, $3.50 and $2.50. Acronym paid $7.60 and $4.10. Sweet N Sour Nina returned $2.90 to show.

Sanagas, a 5-year-old import from Germany ridden by Rajiv Maragh, chased down the leaders with a wide run that carried him to a 2 1/4-length decision over Center Divider.

Sanagas paid $13.80, $7.00 and $6.10. Center Divider returned $9.50 and $6.50. Bold Hawk paid $8.40 to show.
