Shackleford made 5-2 favorite for Haskell
July 28, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Preakness winner Shackleford is the 5-2 morning-line favorite in a field of eight for Sunday's $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.
Belmont Stakes winner Ruler On Ice is the co-third choice along with stablemate Pants On Fire at 4-1. Coil, trained by four-time Haskell winner Bob Baffert, is the second choice at 3-1.
Also entered Thursday for the 1 1/8-mile, Grade 1 race for 3-year-olds were Joe Vann, Concealed Identity, JJ's Lucky Train and Astrology.
Shackleford drew the No. 5 post and will be ridden by Jesus Castenon. Ruler On Ice leaves from the No. 6 post with Jose Valdivia Jr. aboard.
Seven of the last 10 Haskell winners went on to win 3-year-old championships.
