Winter Memories wins Saratoga's Lake George Stakes
July 27, 2011SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Heavily favored Winter Memories rallied from last of six in the final quarter-mile and drew away to a 41/2-length victory in the $150,000 Lake George Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Wednesday at Saratoga Race Course.
Jockey Jose Lezcano was forced to take Winter Memories extremely wide to find running room turning into the stretch of the inner turf course and the Jimmy Toner-trained filly responded with authority to win her fifth race from six starts. Bellamy Road finished second and More Than Real was third. Winter Memories ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.57.
The 1-2 favorite earned $90,000 for her owner, the Phillips Racing Partnership, and paid $3.10, $2.30 and $2.10. Bellamy Star paid $3.90 and $2.50 and More Than Real paid $2.20 to show.
