Pinch Pie wins Monmouth Park feature
July 24, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Pinch Pie drew off in the stretch to win the $70,000 Desert Vixen Stakes at Monmouth Park, beating Our Marsh by 11/2 lengths.
Ridden by Jeremy Rose and trained by Anthony Dutrow, the 3-year-old filly covered the 1 1/16 miles on a firm turf course in 1:42 1/5 and returned $5.80, $3.80 and $2.80.
Sunday's win was the third in seven career starts for Pinch Pie, who has earned $105,012.
In the co-feature, She Digs Me pulled away from Gentlemans Code in the stretch to win the $70,000 Tyro Stakes by two lengths.
Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Elvis Trujillo, the 2-year-old colt ran the 51/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:03 4/5 and paid $5.20, $2.60 and $2.10.
