Heat forces Monmouth to postpone thoroughbred card
July 23, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Monmouth Park has canceled its thoroughbred racing card for the second straight day because of the record heat that continues to plague the East Coast.
The New Jersey shore track announced the decision early Saturday morning after the weather did not break. The track said the card would be made up at a later date.
The track will be open Saturday for simulcasting.
Live racing is expected to resume with a 12-race card on Sunday. The track also intends to race on Monday, when it makes up the card that was postponed on Friday.
