Golden Itiz, Tyler Baze win Hollywood Park feature
July 10, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Golden Itiz rallied from next-to-last at the top of the stretch to win the $70,000 allowance feature on Sunday at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Tyler Baze for trainer Ron Ellis, Golden Itiz sat fourth in the field of five older horses for most of the race, then charged to the wire to beat Red Door Drive by a half-length, covering seven furlongs in 1:22.68.
The favorite, Indian Firewater, went straight to the front at the start and led for most of the race but faded to third in the final yards.
The winner paid $10.40, $4.80 and $3. Red Door Drive paid $3 and $2.40. Indian Firewater paid $2.20 to show.
Golden Itiz, a 4-year-old son of Tiznow, was making just his second start after a 10-month layoff. He finished sixth in a similar allowance on June 10.
The colt improved his record to four wins in seven starts and increased his earnings to $160,480.
