Gallant Son wins Kerlan at Hollywood Park
July 3, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Gallant Son won the $81,898 Robert K. Kerlan Memorial Handicap on Sunday at Hollywood Park to end an eight-race, 14-month losing streak, rallying to beat Streakin' Mohican by a head.
Ridden by Mike Smith for trainer Frank Lucarelli, Gallant Son ran six furlongs on the turf in 1:08.81 and paid $11.20, $5.20 and $3.40. The 5-year-old has seven wins in 25 career starts with earnings of $380,662.
Streakin' Mohican returned $4 and $2.80, and Don Tito paid $5 to show.
