Skipton Creek takes Hollywood Park feature
July 2, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Long shot Skipton Creek and jockey David Flores beat heavy favorite Rosehill Dew by a head to win the $57,900 feature at Hollywood Park on Friday night.
Returning to Southern California after earning her first win at Golden Gate Fields June 12, Skipton Creek sat second for most of the allowance for 3-year-old fillies, took the lead from Artuya in mid-stretch and held off a charge from Rosehill Drew for the win, covering 1 1-16 miles on turf in 1:42.88.
Skipton Creek paid $24, $9.80 and $4.80. Rosehill Dew paid $3.20 and $2.60. Arutya dropped to third and paid $3.40.
Trained by Hall-of-Famer Neil Drysdale for owner and breeder Robert S. Evans, Skipton Creek has won twice in five starts and earned a total of $56,520.
