Summer Soiree wins Monmouth feature
June 25, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Summer Soiree led most of the way in winning the $150,000 Boiling Springs Stakes at Monmouth Park, beating My Sunshine Gal by 81/2 lengths.
Ridden by Gabriel Saez and trained by H. Graham Motion, the 3-year filly ran the 1 1/16 miles over a good turf course in 1:42 4/5 and returned $9.40, $6 and $5.20. Saturday's win in the Grade III race was Summer Soiree's fourth career victory.
In the co-feature, Check Point rallied from last place to win the $75,000 Lighthouse Stakes by 23/4 lengths over Debonair Darling.
Trained by Alan Goldberg and ridden by Carlos Marquez Jr., the 5-year-old mare covered the 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:43 and paid $11.20, $5 and $3.60.
