LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Churchill Downs says racing will resume at the home of the Kentucky Derby after a tornado smashed several horse barns and postponed events for a day.

No people or horses were hurt at the 136-year-old track during the Wednesday evening storm, and its famed twin spires, the grandstand and clubhouse were undamaged.

Track officials say racing will resume Friday. They say in a statement that the National Weather Service surveyed the area and determined that a tornado touched down in the barnyard.

Workers and trainers scrambled to pull horses from stables as the storm caved in roofs and tossed debris Wednesday. Seven barns and the track's chapel were damaged.

Churchill Downs says the races canceled on Thursday would not be made up.
