Wild Mia takes Redondo Beach Stakes at Hollywood
June 5, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Wild Mia and jockey David Flores rallied from fourth at the top of the stretch and held off a similar charge from Andina for a narrow victory in the $75,100 Redondo Beach Stakes on Sunday at Hollywood Park.
A well-traveled Florida-bred filly making her first start in California, Wild Mia was sixth in the field of seven fillies and mares for most of the race, but moved up to fourth on the second turn and won by a neck, covering a mile on turf in 1:34.65.
Wild Mia paid $14, $6.60 and $4.20. Andina paid $6.40 and $4.
The favorite, Tanda, led for most of the race, but faded to third in the final yards. She paid $3.20 to show.
A 4-year-old gray filly trained by Thomas Proctor, Wild Mia earned $44,580 for the win, her fourth in 12 starts, for a career total of $228,174.
