Inglorious comes on to win Woodbine Oaks
June 5, 2011TORONTO (AP) - Inglorious overtook Spooky Kitten in the deep stretch to capture the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks on Sunday, the most prestigious race for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies.
The victory was the first in this event for trainer Josie Carroll, who became the first female conditioner to win the Queen's Plate in 2006.
Inglorious, the 8-5 favorite, won the 1 1/8th-mile race in 1:51.77 on Woodbine Racetrack's Polytrack. Spooky Kitten was second with Marketing Mix third.
The Oaks is the first leg of the filly Triple Tiara, with the second race being the Bison City Stakes on July 3. The final leg is the Wonder Where Stakes on July 31.
