Zenyatta is in foal again after miscarriage
June 2, 2011LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Horse of the Year Zenyatta is pregnant again, two months after suffering a miscarriage.
A post on Zenyatta's Web site Thursday said that a routine 60-day checkup by officials at Lane's End Farm, where she lives, revealed the mare is in foal to Bernardini. The due date is in March.
The website says owners Jerry and Ann Moss don't plan to have Zenyatta tested to learn the sex of the foal.
Zenyatta was in foal to Bernardini in February, but a recheck of her in March revealed the miscarriage.
Zenyatta was retired in November after a career in which she won 19 times in 20 starts. Her only defeat was to Blame in the Breeders' Cup Classic last fall at Churchill Downs.
Rachel Alexandra, who edged Zenyatta for Horse of the Year in 2009, remains pregnant after mating with two-time Horse of the Year Curlin in February.
