See You at Peelers takes on the boys in the Rooney
June 2, 2011YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - The unbeaten See You at Peelers will take on the boys this time.
Harness racing's brightest star puts a 15 for 15 record on the line Saturday night in the $307,734 Art Rooney Pace for 3-year-olds at Yonkers Raceway.
This will be the first time last year's champion 2-year-old pacing filly faces colts and geldings. She won all 13 in 2010, a campaign that concluded with a victory in the Breeders Crown.
See You at Peelers kicked off the new year with a pair of wins at Tioga Downs in Nichols, N.Y., including a world-record equaling win on Sunday night in the Empire Breeders Classic.
Now comes a new challenge. She is the first filly to contest the Rooney since its inception in 1989.
See You at Peelers tops a three-horse entry along with Rollwithitharry and Line Officer as the 3-5 favorites. They are half the six horse field.
See You at Peelers has post No. 5 with Marcus Johansson set to drive for trainer Jimmy Takter.
``She's never been totally extended,'' Johansson said. ``I did have to go faster than I would have liked with her at Tioga, but she came out of race in good shape and we're all looking forward to Saturday.''
