Denomination wins $150,000 Violet at Monmouth Park
May 30, 2011OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Mrs. Alec Head's Denomination came with a strong stretch rally to post a nose-length victory over Unbridled Essence in the $150,000 Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park on Monday.
Denomination covered the mile and a sixteenth over the turf in 1:41 4/5. The Joe Bravo-ridden mare paid $4.20, $3 and $2.60 as the favorite in the field of seven fillies and mares.
The victory was the second graded stakes win for the Christophe Clement-trained winner, who has six victories in 21 starts and $429,301 in earnings. She took the Hillsborough at Tampa Bay Downs in March.
In the other notable stakes race on the Memorial Day card, Ponzi Scheme scored a front-running three-length victory in the $75,000 Skip Away Stakes.
