Pocket Cowboys, Gitchee Goomie win at Belmont
May 29, 2011NEW YORK (AP) - Pocket Cowboys led all the way in the Kingston and Gitchee Goomie rallied to win the Mount Vernon in $100,000 stakes for New York-breds on the turf on Sunday at Belmont Park.
Pocket Cowboys beat Lubash by 1 1/2 lengths with Edgar Prado aboard for trainer-breeder-owner Scott Schwartz. The 5-year-old gelding paid $10.80 to win as he improved to 6 for 21. The time was 1:34.38 for the mile.
Gitchee Goomie swung four wide in the Mount Vernon for fillies and mares and powered past Paraiba by a half-length for her fourth win in 10 starts. Alan Garcia rode the 4-year-old for trainer Rick Violette, Jr. She paid $6 to win. The time was 1:35.36.
