Devilish Spirit wins Belmont feature
May 27, 2011NEW YORK (AP) - Devilish Spirit led all the way and held on to edge Taconic Victory by a neck Friday in the $54,000 allowance feature for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
David Cohen was aboard for trainer Bruce Brown as the 4-year-old got her fifth win in nine starts. The time was 1:17.93 for 6 1/2 furlongs on the fast track.
The 9-5 second choice, Devilish Spirit paid $5.60, $2.90 and $2.20. Taconic Victory, the 6-5 favorite, returned $2.70 and $2.30 and Super Slash paid $2.60 to show.
Earlier on the card, jockey Ramon Dominguez appeared to be uninjured in a spill. He was taken to a hospital as a precaution when his mount Ms Stilleto stumbled and unseated him in the sixth race. The 2010 Eclipse Award winner as the outstanding jockey walked to the ambulance without assistance.
