Awesome Maria wins Belmont's Shuvee
May 21, 2011NEW YORK (AP) - Awesome Maria won a third straight stakes, beating Absinthe Minded by a head Saturday in the $150,000 Shuvee Handicap for filles and mares at Belmont Park.
Javier Castellano was aboard for trainer Todd Pletcher as the 4-year-old improved to 6 for 11.
The 2-5 favorite paid $2.90, $2.10 and $2.10. Absinthe Minded returned $3 and $2.30. Spa City Princess paid $3.70 to show. The time was 1:35.19 for the one mile.
