Acclamation wins Jim Murray Handicap
May 14, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Acclamation won the $150,000 Jim Murray Memorial Handicap for the second straight year on Saturday, defeating Falcon Rock by 7 lengths at Hollywood Park.
Ridden for the first time by Joel Rosario, Acclamation ran 1 1/2 miles on the turf in 2:25.63 and paid $4.80, $2.80 and $2.40 as the 7-5 favorite in ending a four-race losing skid.
Acclamation won last year by 7 1/2 lengths. He joined On the Acorn, who won in 2007 and '08, as the only two-time winners of the race named for the late Pulitzer Prize-winning sports columnist at the Los Angeles Times.
Falcon Rock returned $3.80 and $2.40, while Haimish Hy was another half-length back in third and paid $2.20 to show.
Acclamation has five wins in 24 career starts and earnings of $608,048.
