Chorus Music wins Belmont's Irish Linnet Stakes
April 29, 2011NEW YORK (AP) - Chorus Music drew off to a 51/2-length win over Exclusive Scheme in the $60,000 Irish Linnet Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares, the opening day feature at Belmont Park on Friday.
The 6-year-old surged past the pack in the final furlong to notch her fifth win in 18 starts. Alex Solis was aboard for trainer John Terranova as Chorus Music ran the one mile in 1:38.71 over the yielding turf course. She was sidelined since November, awaiting the return of grass racing in New York.
The 2-1 favorite paid $6.60, $3.60 and $2.60. Exclusive Scheme, $5.10 and $3.20, set the pace and held on for second. Akilina, $2.90, rallied from far back to get third.
