Borel finds Derby mount in Twice the Appeal
April 27, 2011LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Calvin Borel finally has a Kentucky Derby mount in Twice the Appeal.
Borel has won three of the last four Derbys, including last year's triumph aboard Super Saver, but nearly missed this year's race after Elite Alex failed to secure enough graded stakes earnings to earn a spot in the Run for the Roses.
He picked up the ride on Twice the Appeal, the Sunland Derby winner, on Wednesday.
Borel rode Mine That Bird, who finished third in the 2009 Sunland Derby, to victory as a long shot in the Kentucky Derby two years ago.
Borel is seeking to become the first jockey to win three consecutive Derbys.
