Dubawi Heights wins Wilshire Handicap at Hollywood
April 30, 2011INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - British-bred filly Dubawi Heights won her third straight race and her first graded stakes Saturday in the $100,000 Wilshire Handicap on Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, Dubawi Heights rallied from third at the top of the stretch to beat Lilly Fa Pootz by 1 1/2 lengths, covering one mile on turf in 1:35.21 and paying $9, $5.20 and $3.80.
There was a tight battle for second, with just a head separating Lilly Fa Pootz, ultra-long shot Miss Pleasant and the favorite, Well Monied. Lilly Fa Pootz paid $4.80 and $3.60 and Miss Pleasant paid $14.60 to show.
A 4-year-old daughter of Dubawi trained by Simon Callaghan, Dubawi Heights failed to win in her first eight starts - six of them in her native England - but finally broke her maiden at Hollywood Park in November and hasn't lost since. She earned $60,000 for Saturday's victory, her third in 11 starts, for a career total of $505,196.
