Successful Mission wins by neck in Calder feature
April 30, 2011MIAMI (AP) - Second choice Successful Mission edged favored Voodoo Swinge by a neck Saturday to win the $125,000 Miami Mile Handicap on the grass at Calder.
Successful Mission, ridden by Elvis Trujillo, ran the mile in 1:35.01 and paid $8.80, $4.40 and $3.20. Voodoo Swinge, who closed 6-5, returned $2.80 and $2.20. Little Nick, at 12-1, earned $6.00 to show after finishing less than a length back.
Mambo Meister, who won this race last year, finished next to last in a field of seven.
Little Nick rushed to the front at the break and held the lead until the final 50 yards. Successful Mission got by approaching the wire and was all out to hold off Voodoo Swinge.
Successful Mission has seven wins in 16 lifetime starts with earnings of $287,643.
