Fifth Ave wins Santa Anita feature
April 15, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Fifth Ave defeated Rumor by 11/4 lengths to win Friday's $56,000 American Girl Purse for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, Fifth Ave ran 61/2 furlongs on the turf in 1:12.59 and paid $28.80, $6.40 and $3.20 at 13-1, the longest shot in the field of five.
Rumor returned $2.60 and $2.20, while Up In Time was another three lengths back in third and paid $2.80 to show.
Trained and co-owned by Jim Cassidy, Fifth Ave had run 13 times in Britain before being sent to the U.S., where she was making her debut Friday.
The victory was worth $33,600. Fifth Ave earned $24,131 in her 13 races in Britain, where she won just two.
