Dutrow banned from racing in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. has been denied a license to race in Kentucky in 2011.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission's License Review Committee met with the Kentucky Derby winning trainer for an hour Wednesday before unanimously denying Dutrow's application.

KHRC executive director Lisa Underwood said the denial was based on Dutrow's ``consistent disregard for the rules of racing.''

Dutrow, who won the Derby and the Preakness in 2008 with Big Brown, has run into trouble throughout the years. New York racing officials suspended him twice in February for hypodermic needles in his barn and for a winning horse's positive test for a banned painkiller at Aqueduct last year.

Dutrow can appeal the decision.
