Favorite Jaycito uncertain for Santa Anita Derby
April 8, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - It's spring, so that means Bob Baffert is thinking Kentucky Derby.
The three-time winner of America's most famous race has got two contenders, though he's not celebrating anything yet. He knows how hard it is to shepherd a colt along the Derby trail and with a month to go, the Hall of Fame trainer is still wondering which one will get him to Louisville.
It may not be Jaycito, the 2-1 early favorite for Saturday's Santa Anita Derby. Baffert says the colt has a bruised front hoof and is 50-50 to be scratched from the $1 million race, the West's biggest prep for the Kentucky Derby.
He didn't specify which foot is affected by the abscess, a bacterial infection that causes fluid to accumulate in the foot, often causing pain.
