Lunar Mist wins at Santa Anita at 18-1
March 31, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Lunar Mist found an opening along the rail to overtake Sarasota Sunshine and win Santa Anita's $59,800 Cambria Purse for fillies and mares by 11/4 lengths on Thursday.
Ridden by Martin Pedroza, Lunar Mist ran 61/2 furlongs on the turf in 1:13.16 and paid $39, $12.20 and $4.40 at 18-1 odds.
Sarasota Sunshine, co-owned by sports talk radio host Jim Rome, returned $5.20 and $3.60. Linda Lou was another half-length back in third and paid $2.40 to show.
Trainer Eric Reed earned his first win at Santa Anita in 16 races. Lunar Mist was claimed by her owner for $40,000 at Keeneland in October.
The victory, worth $35,400, increased Lunar Mist's career earnings to $98,706, with three wins in 11 starts.
