Church Camp wins Santa Anita feature
March 27, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Church Camp defeated Burg Berg by 11/4 lengths to win Sunday's $82,020 Santa Lucia Stakes for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Church Camp ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:42.39 and paid $14.60, $6 and $4.40. Burg Berg returned $6.40 and $4.80, while Jax El was another half-length back in third and paid $5.60 to show.
It was the first stakes victory for Church Camp and her second win in a row after two runner-up finishes. The victory, worth $47,220, increased Church Camp's career earnings to $146,420.
Jockey Patrick Valenzuela, who won four races on Saturday after winning the finale on Friday's card, won the first three races on Sunday, giving him eight wins in his last 10 mounts.
